On Sunday, Rev. John Hayab, the state association chairman, pleaded with Buhari to use the final 24 hours of his presidency to free the remaining 16 worshipers.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, was also urged by him to prepare for his first rescue operation should President Buhari fail to take the necessary action before his term ends on May 29.
He claims that the impacted families, the majority of whom are peasant farmers, cannot satisfy the kidnappers’ demands.
In Bege Baptist Church near Buruku, more than 40 worshippers were taken hostage by robbers on Sunday for the third time; 24 of them subsequently came back, he claimed. 16 of them are still being held captive by their kidnappers.

“All efforts have yet to produce a fruitful outcome. The robbers are still demanding hefty ransoms, and the impoverished villagers lack the funds to save their loved ones.
They want money and motorcycles. You held these poor farmers’ wives, kids, and parents in the wilderness for years, preventing them from accessing their farms.
Unfortunately, no one in a position of power is speaking out against these Nigerians. They are occupied thinking about what they can grab next.
Because they were frail and could no longer trek or because they were left half-dead, some of the other 24 were released by the robbers.
The villagers whose loved ones have been abducted are distraught over how to pay the ransom demanded by the bandits, and we as an association are at a loss for what to do as well.
“We are pleading with the departing administration to use the next 24 hours to save our people and allow them to return home.
If they fail, we are urging the new administration to devise a new strategy to prevent these individuals from staying in the forest for the next 48 hours.
“Let it be their first and foremost task to free the worshipers currently being held captive at Bege Baptist Church in Madala. Without a government, this evil will persist.
